About the role:

The Strategy and Operations team acts as the hub for the 200 person strong data organisation at Ocado, focusing on enabling the data crafts so that they can deliver the maximum value from Ocado’s data.

Over the past year we have migrated Ocado Smart Platform’s business intelligence reporting to Looker and built an enterprise DWH orchestrated by DBT. So far we have migrated over 700 users and trained over 50 developers, setting up both internal and external reporting

We’re at a super exciting stage in our Looker roll out and this role is pivotal to supercharging that next step, maximising the value and impact of our investment in the tool. You will be a core part of delivering on that mission. Ocado was set up in 2000 as an online grocery business, with 23 global warehouses, one of which can generate 75 billion events a day. This role will give you visibility and exposure to the entire organisation that delivered that growth.  

What we’re looking for:

This is an individual contributor role that will focus on expanding our initial user engagement plan. Initially building and delivering training for both developers and end users, you will also be involved in helping refine our best practice to ensure that our developers can get the most out of the instance as it scales. This role is all about advocating for business intelligence, self-serve and Looker; you will get to take part in setting that direction.  

The role will work closely with the Data Ops Lead and delivery partner, then more broadly with analysts in our spokes across the organisation. We’re looking for;

  • Strong experience developing in Looker both front end and lookml
  • Analytical experience, particularly in data storytelling and dashboard design
  • Strong communication & stakeholder management skills
  • Experience using SQL

A nice to have would also be; (but not essential)

  • Experience using python
  • Understanding of data modelling theory
  • Exposure to DBT
  • Exposure to Looker Studio
  • Delivering or developing training plans
